Have you ever noticed that when you come to God in prayer with your wants and desires, it’s often like laying out your needs as if you’re reciting a spiritual grocery list?
But that's not the heart of prayer, and it's no surprise that so many prayers go unanswered when you’re focused on your own desires rather than God's promises. True prayer is about aligning yourself with God's Word, standing on His promises, and speaking them back to Him in faith.
God’s Word is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, and when you pray His Word, you're not just hoping for change you're stepping into the authority and victory the Lord has already secured for you.
When it comes to praying for healing, Scripture is our strongest foundation. In Isaiah 38 when King Hezekiah was on his deathbed, he didn’t just ask God to heal him. He reminded God of the life he had lived in alignment with God’s will. Hezekiah's prayer and the poem he wrote afterward are powerful examples of how we can approach God in times of physical illness.
Here's how you can pray for healing, drawing inspiration from a King in Isaiah 38:
-
Acknowledge Your Need: Just like Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and cried out, begin your prayer by acknowledging your need for God's intervention. "Lord, I come to you with this illness, knowing that you are the Great Physician."
-
Remind God of His Promises: Hezekiah reminded God of his faithful walk. We can remind God of His promises too. "Lord, your Word says in Psalm 103:3 that You forgive all our sins and heal all our diseases. You have declared that by Your stripes, we are healed in Isaiah 53:5.”
-
Express Your Faith: Hezekiah expressed his hope in God even in the face of death. "Father, I trust in You alone. I believe that You are able to heal me and restore my health. Just as You added years to Hezekiah's life, I believe You can bring healing to my body too."
-
Declare God’s Sovereignty: In Isaiah 38:20, Hezekiah said, "The Lord will save me." Declare God’s power over your situation. "God, I know that You are sovereign, and I trust that You hold my health and my life in Your hands. I stand on Your Word and declare Your healing over my body."
-
Praise Him in Advance: Hezekiah responded to his healing with praise. End your prayer by thanking God for the healing He is bringing. "Thank you, Lord, for hearing my prayer and for the healing You are working in me. I give You all the glory and honor, trusting in Your perfect will."
Prayer is not just about asking for something. It’s about aligning yourself with God's Word and trusting His promises. When you pray His Word back to Him you’re not only expressing your faith, but also stepping under the covering of His will for your life.
Did you also know that Romans 8:16-17, and Revelation 1:6, declare that you’re royalty!
"The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together."
~ Romans 8:16-17 NKJV
"and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen."
~ Revelation 1:6 NKJV
You’re a King or Queen in Heavens Army, which means King Hezekiah’s prayer for healing was made for you too! There is power when you pray with Scripture on your lips and faith in your heart, knowing beyond any doubt that the Lord is faithful to His Word.
